thinking so long and hard about joyness once more…like yesss they are very cute and sweet and all but i think them getting together even after their History is sooo interesting. like, does joy first start hanging out around sadness and talking with her more often out of guilt? is it performative? when does it stop being performative?? and at what point does joy realize it’s stopped being performative? how does joy feel when every single interaction she has with sadness after the events of the first movie are just like…constant reminders of how she screwed up with her prior? liking someone who makes her feel that bad when she normally never lingers on what she's done wrong just seems so counterintuitive (fun fact: joy has literally never genuinely apologized for anything she's done, across both movies. she's acknowledged and fixed her mistakes before, sure, but she has never expressed guilt so straightforwardly like that. is she simply incapable of it? or has she just...never given importance to feeling guilty before so long as she can just Fix her mistake? just something very interesting i've noticed...)!!

like, joy’s canonically admitted that she’s literally tried to kick sadness out of headquarters before. that’s truly how little joy thought of her before she got to know her better…she totally would have been fine with just. never seeing her again. imagine disliking your coworker THAT much since the very first day you met her and now you have feelings for her…?! not a possibility joy ever would have considered, and i think joy would struggle a Lot with coming to terms with that initially. she is the Queen of cognitive dissonance. of being Delusional. it’s HARD to shake off old habits just like that!! joy is someone who very much doesn’t fully acknowledge how she feels until it gets so intense it bubbles up to the surface and breaks through her usual demeanor (we’ve seen that both with how she’s gotten sad and angry before…who’s to say romance would not be the same. i think she’d just keep denying it until she just. has an Ah Shit moment with sadness one day. probably over something completely mundane).

and it certainly doesn’t help that sadness is, well. Sadness! she clearly admires joy from the very beginning even when joy treated her so poorly (knowing her she probably thought she deserved it…sigh). she’d literally just assume absolutely nothing would come out of her feelings. and you know she probably might even romanticize and Enjoy it in a weird way…i mean think about it. she canonically likes sad romance novels…this is her own "tragic romance" (apparently. SUPPOSEDLY) so i think she’d kind of insistently cling to that. define their entire relationship as unrequited and reallyyy lean into it and warp anything that happens otherwise to fit her little Doomed Yuri vision. she's observant as hell for pretty much everything, normally, but she just has goddamn Horse Blinders on for just this one thing specifically.

she’s just completely unaware of how fundamentally she’s changed joy and shattered her entire worldview (meanwhile joy is just busy having a whole crisis about exactly that). and NOW she has to deal with actually being treated like she matters, both by joy and the other emotions?? helloooo? she’s definitely got a lot to process by this point because Her entire way of living has changed too now in an entirely different direction.

AND then you add to that how it's pretty clear that sadness knows joy pretty well, but joy still has a Lot to learn about sadness because she never gave her a chance before...very much a recipe for guilt and confusion and miscommunication and other such weird occurrences to arise.

BASICALLY tldr theyre both kind of idiots and i think their dynamic is a little more complicated than people give it credit for. joyness is a veryyy. She fell first (sadness) she fell harder (joy) type of dynamic. To Me.

I saw a video of some american girls in denmark looking at danish men walking down the street and they seemed so surprised that none of them paid attention to them...they were sitting outside at a restaurant. The comment section was full of people saying that it's not that they are not pretty, it's just how scandinavians are, they don't approach people the same way americans do, but all I could think about was; do americans really just walk up to random people's table and ask for their number or what?? because that would give me so much anxiety😭

I saw that same video and thought it was strange that the girls were openly staring at them?? Idk it just seemed so creepy to me, and the idea that in the USA you could be minding your own business just for someone to walk up and put you on the spot like that?? 😮‍💨 No thank you, no thank you-

Sorry for kurobasposting in your inbox, but now that (I assume) you've met all the Generation of Miracles, I need to know if your favorite is still Murasakibara. Also, we talk so much about squad dynamics in Bleach, I can't help but think about team dynamics too, like Touou gave me such Squad 11 vibes, and it made me wonder which team you liked best (and if any of them reminded you of Squad 6👀). Also, in a Bleach Sports scenario, do you think kouhai Renji would be devastated when team captain/senpai Byakuya graduates and passes the mantle onto him? I'm imagining a Portions for Foxes kind of AU where Renji agonizes about leading a team, but Rukia lowkey fantasies about how hot he'd look doing it. Think about the pep talks he'd give!!!!!!!! OK I'm done.

No apologies necessary! I am very happy to talk about Kurobas!! I don't talk about it nearly as much as I have thoughts about it, because nearly all my thoughts are tied up around How Much Bleach It Is, because its insane basketball-themed powers system was so incredibly Bleach-structured, and even though the main cast was not very Bleachy at all, so many of their random opponents were just straight up Bleach characters.

Who is my favorite Miracle? I cannot answer this question. I hate them all. They are all my favorite. To me, the Generation of Miracles exists on some plane orthogonal to "liking" or "not liking." Each and every one of them is an Entity, and I am obsessed with them.

Kise is the most human of them. He works so hard and loves basketball so much. He was late to the GoM and to me, there's this degree of sadness that he deserved to have a better time. Also, he wants to be friends with everyone so badly and they are so mean to him. "I would be friends with you, Kise," I say to myself, and then I remember that he's a model and it's like, "You know what? Never mind."

Midorima is 100%, unapologetically himself all of the time, and I respect that, but also: he's terrible. My opinions on him oscillate wildly. I do think he deserves his skill level more than anyone else on the GoM. I want to push him down the stairs.

I am a really simple person: I like character who work hard. I can never love Aomine because he does not go to practice and does not show up for games on time. On the other hand, he is electric on the court, he's the funnest player to watch, by far. I also enjoy his Color Commentary the best. He has merged so completely with Grimmjow in my mind that when I was watching TYBW last week, I was like "why is Aomine here?" and then the next time I watched KNB and he yelled "If you don't beat Rakuzan, I'll kill you!" at Kuroko, I was like "thanks, Grimmjow." I think he has a really toxic relationship with basketball, and should probably quit and do something else instead.

Murasakibara is so precious to me because I love him in a way I have never loved another character. He doesn't work hard, either, but he also Doesn't Want To Be Here and is making it everyone else's problem. I cannot justify it in the least, but I get unreasonably excited whenever he shows up. I actually screamed out loud when he put his hair up in a ponytail.

Akashi might be the greatest anime villain of all time, and that counts Aizen. The scope of his villainy was small, but he brought his A+++ game to it. My favorite Akashi moment was when he was being defeated by the power of friendship and he cured his own multiple personality disorder during a time-out and came back with his own, even better version of the power of friendship. I mean, I hate him, obviously. He has ruined so many people's basketball experience for basically no reason whatsoever. Poster child for eating the rich.

It's hard to like any team better than Seirin because every player on Seirin is a banger, and their teamwork is second to none. I don't think there were any other teams that I liked the full bench as much as Seirin.

I think the match against Yousen was my favorite, maybe because I just love a good defense. I am obsessed with the way Kimuro was just like "Friendship with Kagami ended, uh, uh, Murasakibara is my new best friend!!" Why are they always hanging out???

Shuutoku is Squad Six, I am sorry to say. It just is. Legacy team with long history of consistent greatness. Midorima is Byakuya if Byakuya was raised as a human teen instead of the most important person in Soul Society, and also he got into astrology for some reason. Takao is not really anything like Renji, but his rapport with Midorima is extremely Byakuya-Renji coded. The Sky Direct Three Point shot was one of the high points of the entire series for me, and I think Renji would have cried actual tears if he watched that episode. (He would refuse to pull Byakuya around in a little cart, tho)

I also kinda like Kaijou, but maybe it's just because Kasamatsu was my favorite non-Seirin, non-GoM side character by a long shot. Maybe it's because he works so hard and feels so hard and takes being captain as such a responsibility. Maybe it's his knee socks.

I would not have called the Touou - Squad 11 connection, although I can see it. Imayoshi was Basketball Gin, to me, and Sakurai was Basketball Rikichi.

I adore the scenario you outlined where Renji goes through the entire five stages of grief because Senpai is Furthering his Education. A real Bleach-KNB fusion (Orihime no Basuke) would have to focus on the Karakura kids, but Renji and Byakuya's team would be their first rival team, the one that you get to cheer for later on as the series progresses. Rukia would have transferred from Renji and Byakuya's school to Karakura High and would coach Ichigo and Orihime's team, which would make such good emotional tension.

hi idk if ur knowlegable about this but i hope u are. what's with the gaiden/infinite wealth situation? are they the same game or two different games? if they're different ones, are they coming out at the same time? are they both rgg8 or is one a spinoff or What.... sorry im just rly confused by new game announcement stuff always

yeah i can answer that! they are two different games. i will try my best to clarify.

RGG Gaiden (Like a Dragon: Gaiden) is what I’d equate to being Yakuza/RGG 6.5 more or less. It’s not going to be as big a production as a typical mainline game, but it’s a canon addition to the mainline story. you’ll play as kiryu (code name “joryu”) and learn what the hell he was up to between RGG 6 (Yakuza 6) and RGG 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon). This game comes out November 8th of this year and is already available for pre-order. if you see any content where kiryu’s a secret agent, that’s gaiden.

LAD: Infinite Wealth is RGG 8. It’s a big beefy full mainline game that comes out in spring of 2024 and it takes place after the events of RGG 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon). you’ll play as both ichiban and kiryu. if you see any content where Ichiban and kiryu are in hawaii and/or kiryu’s got a weird grey haircut with bangs, that’s this game.

Explanation to the best of my ability on why the naming has been so convoluted is as follows (apologies if this is long and confusing):

The name situation with LAD: Infinite Wealth/RGG 8 is stupidly confusing because they chose to release it with a different name in Japan than to the US– so in the US it’s LAD: Infinite Wealth, in japan it’s RGG 8. This is because they released RGG 7 as “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” in the US and basically thought westerners would be confused by the sudden jump to “Like a Dragon 8” considering there’s only one game that’s been released with the name Like a Dragon in the US, if that makes any sense.

as for why they’re phasing out the name “yakuza”, i believe they only originally named the series yakuza in the US because it’d be easier to immediately get across what the games are about to westerners prior to them having a bigger, more knowledgeable audience in the west. so now that they have a bigger western audience and don’t have to worry as much about all that, they’ve been trying to advertise with the “like a dragon” name and drop the use of “yakuza” for the most part.

sooooo yeah infinite wealth is pretty needlessly complicated because of how they chose to name it differently in Japan vs the US and all that– to the point where yokoyama even tried to explain it in a letter posted to Twitter but it really didn’t help anything at all and I still think it was a kinda stupid call. In my brain it’s just yakuza 8 honestly lmao.

It's also inching its way to 500 kudos, and if / when it gets there, I really want to release a version of the chapter three kiss written from Robin's POV as a special way of saying thank you for all the support. That being said, I'm not sure if it would make sense to post it on ao3 or just to upload it here and on twitter? I don't really want it to be part of the fic itself, since it's important to me that it stays limited to Chrom's POV, but I guess I could make it part of a collection or mark it as a work inspired by the fic??? Idk, but I've got some time to figure it out I guess LOL.

I'm also chugging along with progress on the next chapter! The holidays were more busy than expected but things have settled down now and I'm definitely making progress. My hope is to have it done by the end of the month or, more ambitiously, before my classes start on the 25th, but it will probably depend on how deeply mired in the revision process I get.
